چکیده
This study aims to investigate a friction stir welded joint between steel and aluminum alloy that is employed in maritime applications (i.e., connection the ship over-structures hull or deck). By changing tool rotational direction, advancing retreating side, single lap configuration was studied. Tensile tests were conducted evaluate mechanical resistance surface fracture after preliminary investigation consisting of morphological microstructural analyses microhardness measurements, with goal considering possibility replacing typical joining processes, such as traditional welding explosion welding, welding. The testing showed produced on side performed better (+23.5% maximum load) than made side.

Effect of Welding Speed on Defect Features and Mechanical Performance of Friction Stir Lap Welded 7B04 Aluminum Alloy
Friction stir lap welding of 7B04 aluminum alloy was conducted in the present paper, and the effect of welding speed on the defect features and mechanical performance of lap joints was investigated. The results indicate that the hook defect at the advancing side (AS) can reduce the effective thickness of the top sheet, and the sheet thinning level is gradually lowered by increasing the welding ...
متن کاملSeam-Tracking for Friction Stir Welded Lap Joints
This article presents a method for automatic seam-tracking in friction stir welding (FSW) of lap joints. In this method, tracking is accomplished by weaving the FSW tool back-and-forth perpendicular to the direction of travel during welding and monitoring force and torque signals. Research demonstrates the ability of this method to automatically track weld seam positions. Additionally, tensile ...

The axial force measurement plays important role in tool designing and identification of its restrictions. Also, it is vital in design of machine mechanism and optimization of welding process parameters. In this study, a friction stir welded butt join on AA7075-T651 aluminum alloy plate is investigated. With change of some parameters, factors including axial force, mechanical properties, microh...
متن کاملTensile properties and fracture locations of friction-stir-welded joints of 2017-T351 aluminum alloy
Friction stir welding (FSW) is a new and promising welding process that can produce low-cost and high-quality joints of heat-treatable aluminum alloys because it does not need consumable filler materials and can eliminate some welding defects such as crack and porosity. In order to demonstrate the friction stir weldability of the 2017-T351 aluminum alloy and determine optimum welding parameters...
متن کاملEffect of Heat Input on Tensile Properties of Friction Stir Welded AA6061-T6 and AA7075-T6 Dissimilar Aluminum Alloy Joints
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state process widely used to join dissimilar aluminium alloys. High quality and strength joints can be fabricated using this technique when compared to other conventional methods. The welding parameters play major role in determining the quality of the weld. This paper aims in presenting the effect of heat input on tensile properties of the joints between ...
